Egypt's revenues from the Suez Canal climbed to $318.1 million in June 2006 from $280.4 million in June last year, the cabinet said in a bulletin on its Web site on Tuesday. The number of vessels passing through the waterway fell to 1,534 in June from 1,563 in May, up from 1,466 in June 2005, the bulletin added.
Canal revenues were $325.6 million in May. The canal is an important source of foreign currency for Egypt, along with remittances from Egyptians living abroad, tourism and oil exports.
