The Board of Airline Representatives in Pakistan (BARIP) has appreciated the Federal government decision to revise the imposition of Federal Excise Duty (FED) on international travel and instead a specific amount has been fixed for passengers embarking on international journey from Pakistan applicable from August 01, 2006.
According to Federal government directives the fix tax (FED) for passengers travelling to the destination of Africa, Saarc Region, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan will be Rs 1500 for Economy class and Rs 2500 for Business class respectively.
Similarly, Federal Excise Duty for Europe, Far East, China, USA, Canada, Australia, South America and others will be 2,500 for Economy class and 4,000 for Business class respectively.
Diplomats, Crew, Haj travellers and passengers holding return tickets issued abroad and embarking on return journey from Pakistan will be exempted from the said tax.
BARIP said the revision of FED is the result of a series of meetings initiated by BARIP. As a result a mutual understanding and agreement between BARIP and Federal Government was reached.
"We are grateful to the Government and Central Board of Revenue for taking our concerns into consideration and effectively revising the FED on international travel". "We thank them for their co-operation in this regard", said Azhar Hashim, Vice Chairman, BARIP.
BARIP in Pakistan comprises representations from PIA, Emirates, Air France, Etehad Airways, Alitalia, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Gulf Air, Iran Air, Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Sri Lanka Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, Syrian Arab Airlines, Thai Airways International and Turkish Airlines.
