A two-member bench of the Supreme Court on Friday recalled bail of Muhammad Riaz Chughtai of King Travel Agency in Gulf Airlines Ticketing fraud case while accepting the petition of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi and Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, expressed displeasure over the non-appearance of the accused despite the court directions.
The bench dismissed the appeal filed by Muhammad Riaz Chughtai in which he challenged the jurisdiction of the NAB regarding its powers to investigate the matter between the two private parties.
Muhammad Riaz Chughtai was arrested by NAB in 2000 and granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in 2001, which was confirmed by the court on November 26 the same year. The accused was also allowed by the court to proceed abroad by suspending his name from the Exit Control List (ECL). The NAB filed a petition before the Supreme Court to recall both the orders regarding bail as well as suspension of Chughtai's name from the ECL.
