Seminar on neuroscience and psychology held

The Psychology department of Government College University Lahore on Friday organised a seminar on 'Neuroscience and Psychology'. Addressing the seminar, Dr Hellen Rostil of the Brimingham University, UK discussed in detail the Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD).
Describing the information processing models of PTSD, she mentioned that according to a survey, 72-percent of violent young offenders in Britain had experienced childhood trauma in terms of emotional, sexual, physical or organised ritual abuse.
Another keynote speaker, Dr Theresa Powell discussed the development of awareness of deficit in people with acquired brain injury. She also described the therapists' experiences of patients, who had little awareness of their problems and thus poor self-awareness results in longer hospital admission.
She further said that unawareness of cognitive problems and skill deficit continues in some people for months/years, especially traumatic brain injury. She also dilated on the cognitive disorders and impact of cognitive factors.
British Council Lahore Director Dr Iftikhar Elahi described the lectures of Dr Theresa and Dr Hellen as informative and stimulating, which would eventually enhance the knowledge of faculty members and students. He also assured his support to the Psychology department of GCU in furthering and sharing research and academic linkages.
Chairperson, department of Psychology GC University Lahore, Dr Kauser Sohail highlighted the purpose of holding this seminar. She thanked the guest speakers for extending informative lectures.
