Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) held a "Public Hearing" for award of Satellite TV license to M/s. Labbaik TV on Saturday in Karachi. Section 24(02) of Pemra Ordinance 2002, ordains Authority to hold public hearing at all provincial capitals as well as at federal capital before granting or refusing any broadcast license.
Cross sections of people including stakeholders from electronic and print media attended the session. Executive Member Pemra along with Director General (Enforcement) addressed various queries of participants during the public hearing. The participants lauded the contribution of Pemra in promotion of private electronic media regime in the country that has broadened the access of masses to healthy information, education, and entertainment.
They also hailed the Pemra for ensuring transparency and good governance in its licensing procedures and appreciated the massive solicitation of public representation in public hearings through print media.
Shahid Humayun, Executive Member Pemra told that M/S. Labbaik (Pvt) Ltd, Karachi once approved would be a Pakistani infotainment TV channel and said that it would be another promising addition to private electronic media in country. He said that Pemra is endeavoured to offer wide variety and quality of channels to viewers in Pakistan.
Labbaik TV would offer entertainment and information mix of programmes to the public and its transmission would be available to downlink form PAKSAT satellite. Executive Member Pemra resolves to encourage and facilitate the prospective entrants in this domain. He further added that with the liberal and ardent Pemra policies this growth pace is sure to gain still greater acceleration in the days ahead.
