Nine people, including a teenage boy and three minor girls, died and four others injured on Sunday when a jeep plunged into ravine near Nathiagali, some 35 kilometres east of Abbottabad in NWFP, police said.
THE EARLY MORNING TRAGEDY PARTICULARLY GRIEVED THREE FAMILIES THAT LOST A COUPLE OF THEIR MEMBERS: a father and a son in one case; a mother and a daughter in the other; and a brother and a sister in third.
The incident took place when a jeep with number plate, RIX 6446, carrying 13 people and heading for Bakot town from Nathiagali fell into an about 700-yard deep ravine at Seri Khan Kalan village, a police official told Business Recorder from Abbottabad.
The deceased include Rehan s/o Munir, 50 and his 14-year-old son Amjad. Similarly, 25-year-old Rifat w/o Waheed breathed her last with a five-month-old daughter. In third case, Ghani Daad s/o Afsar, 45, died with his 12-year-old sister Sobia.
Others who died were Fozia d/o Haji Nazir, 4, Shazia d/o Rasheed, 14 and Gulistan s/o Shah Zaman.
The injured included driver of the jeep, Fahim, Rasheed s/o Yousaf and two unidentified people, a man and a woman each.
Habibur Rehman, a police official at Abbottabad, told this correspondent that torrential rains during the last three days made the road slippery that caused the accident.
Habib said the injured were rushed to Ayub Medical Complex (AMC) in Abbottabad and were stated to be in critical condition.
