Reiterating MMA's demand of holding elections under an interim civilian government with the Senate Chairman as Acting President, the MMA President and Jamaat-i-Islami Chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that the present military regime is not willing to step down by July 31.
Therefore, it offers the ARD to join its anti-government drive to rid the country of military dictatorship once for all.
He was speaking at a reception hosted by JI for the delegates of Pakistan Union of Journalists here on Sunday.
He dwelt at length on various issues confronting the national and international politics.
The JI Emir reminded the journalists of their duties in terms of exposing the double standards of arrogant world powers like America and Israel who, in pursuance of their pre-emptive strike doctrine, are out to destroy the humanity in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq.
He asked General Musharraf: "Who is responsible for ridiculing Pakistan army by pitching it against our own people in Balochistan and tribal areas?"
He termed the US-backed zionist army's attack in Palestine and Lebanon manifestation of sheer extremism. "Those who are raising voice against occupation of their homeland are not extremists," he said.
He said, "We are not interested in membership of Parliament for any personal gains. The present assemblies have failed to deliver any goods to the masses; that is why MMA has decided to contact the people and started mobilising them against military dictators in Pakistan."
After the fall of the present government, he said, his party would not accept another military rule in Pakistan.
He said that all efforts to create a wedge in the ranks of MMA would badly fail. "If Pervez Musharraf re-elected himself president through the sitting assemblies, the entire opposition will resign from the assemblies and come on the streets to force him to quit power."
Qazi took strong exception to General Musharraf's U-turn on Kashmir saying that talks for the peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue could only yield fruit provided New Delhi accepts Kashmir as disputed territory.
"Solution to the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN resolutions could open vistas of mutual co-operation between the two countries," he observed.
