The three-day joint meeting of Federal Executive Council (FEC) of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), and National Executive Committee (NEC) of All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (Apnec) will be held in Peshawar from August 4 to 6, to discuss government-press relationship and draw future course of action against non-implementation of 7th Wage Award.
According to a PFUJ news release, the agenda of the meeting includes issues confronting newspaper employees like non-implementation of 7th Wage Award and the government's failure despite firm assurance given to PFUJ and Apnec regarding the implementation of the Award.
For the last one year the government committee headed by PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussein has been holding talks with APNS and have given all kind of concessions and facilities including the one given in the budget, but failed to get the award implemented.
The meeting will also discuss in depth rising incidents of violence against journalists of print and electronic media particularly in tribal areas of NWFP, Balochistan and in interior of Sindh, kidnapping and murder of journalists Hayatullah Khan, Munir Sangi, illegal detention of GEO correspondent Mukesh Rupeta and cameraman Sanjay Kumar and registration of case under Official Secret, who were released after three months and continued detention of Kawish reporter Muniruddin Munir.
The meeting will consider amendments proposed by mediation committee of the Parliament in Pakistan electronic media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Bill which will not be put before the Parliament. Besides, the meeting will also discuss Press Council and proposed media policy of the government.
