The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), has claimed that it had rectified major cable faults that occurred following heavy downpour during the week. According to the corporation's spokesman, the power utility has successfully troubleshot 98 percent of faults in its underground cables.
However, the engineers were trying to overcome fault problems in its weak network and the delay was due to rainwater accumulated around cables, he said, adding the remaining two percent faults are in the Site and Korangi areas.
The city demand stood at 1900MW on Wednesday and the power utility recorded no shortage.
The KESC has rectified faults in 34 sub-stations in Region-III. The engineers also normalise the electricity in Korangi Industrial Area, Malir and PECHS, while some local faults remain to be repaired.
Meanwhile, the KESC has introduced 'Performance Trophy' in network department in three regions to motivate its employees. The motivation drive is based on quick recovery of faults in any region, consumers' feedback and the management opinion. The corporation would issue certificates, trophies and may also consider cash prizes in this regard.
On Wednesday, an angry mob stormed one of KESC's grid station at Elander Road at about 3 pm and injured the staff. The matter was resolved on the interference of senior management staff.
Moreover, several low voltage and sudden breakdown complaints were received from different parts of the city. A part of Korangi industrial area was facing power breakdown for last three days.
