Raw sugar prices finished higher on trade buying Friday, bouncing back from Thursday's slide to seven-month lows from fund sales, market sources said. New York Board of Trade's October raw sugar contract settled up 0.13 cent at 14.41 cents per lb after trading from 14.28 to 14.46 cents.
March gained 0.14 to 14.93 cents, with back-month contracts up 0.10 to 0.15 cent. NYBOT October sugar prices plunged Thursday to end at lows last seen in January, amid heavy selling after the market failed to break through key resistance at 15 cents.
NYBOT final estimated volume came to 52,152 lots, down from Thursday's tally of 53,274 contracts. Call volume hit 15,336 lots and puts 7,334 lots. Open interest sank 546 lots to 469,927 lots as of August 3. The ethanol market was untraded.
