Federal Minister for Communications Shamim Siddiqui has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to take measures to control land sliding in the Kalarkahar area of M-2. Last night, the trailers and trucks were prohibited to inter the Salt Range because of land sliding.
However, the Motorway Police managed to arranged complete flow of LTV and PSV vehicles, says a press release. The Minister visited the land sliding area on M-2 along with media team on Saturday.
He was briefed that heavy rains had caused land sliding, however, the NHA and the motorway police had taken measures to handle this problem.
The NHA has constructed two briefing points for motorway police where the NH and MP will check fitness of the vehicles and allow them to enter the Salt Range.
For an alternate route, three plans have been sent to the Planning Division for approval, which cost Rs three billion for the project, he said.
The minister directed the NHA and the motorway police authority to make close co-ordination to control land sliding and smooth plying of commuters vehicles on the motorway. He praised performance of the motorway police in the Salt Range for controlling accidents and smooth flow of traffic.
He said that NHA has been directed to take measure to stop land sliding which the NHA will complete in two months time.
Chairman NHA Major General Furrukh Javed, DIG motorway Shaukat Hayat and other senior officers were also present.-PR
