With a view to celebrating the Independence Day in a befitting manner, the city government has planned to hold different functions in the city. To mark the day, a ceremony will be held at the City District Nazim's office where gold medals will be given to the best-known people.
Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, DCO Iftikhar Babar said that the celebrations of the Independence Day would start from August 11 and will be continued the whole week.
On August 14 special prayers will be held in mosques at 7:55am while traffic will be stopped on the roads, the whole city will be illuminated on the occasion, he added.
He said that seminars would be arranged at different colleges to highlight the importance of the day. Cultural programmes will also be held at Art Council in this regard, he added. He said that sweets would be distributed at the hospitals and jails. On this occasion special security arrangements will be made in the city to avert any untoward situation, he added.
The DCO directed the TMOs that city should be decorated and cleaned on the day. Meanwhile, the association of small traders has announced to send 10 maunds sweets in jails and charity institutes on Independence Day.
