PML President Shujaat Hussain has called this week a meeting of Ittehad-e-Tanzeemul Madaris Deeniyah (ITMD) for appropriate solution to avert the possible crisis following government's decision to expel all foreign students studying in religious seminaries.
Sources told Business Recorder that Shujaat held a detailed meeting with the Secretary General of Wafaqul Madaris, Qari Muhammad Hanif Jalandhary, here on Sunday who had called on him. It is learnt that Jalandhary conveyed 'serious' concerns over the government's announcement to expel foreign students in religious seminaries.
Sources said that Hanif requested Shujaat to use his influence and stop such acts that would destabilise the country. He said that there was a lobby in the interior ministry, which was violating the directives of President Pervez Musharraf.
Hanif, it is learnt, told Shujaat that foreign students studying in the seminaries had got NOCs from their respective embassies but the interior ministry was still threatening to expel them, that was completely against the agreement between the government and ITMD.
Sources said that Shujaat assured ITMD that he would convey their concerns to President Pervez Musharraf. Sources said that Shujaat has convened a meeting of ITMD this week to find out a suitable solution of the issue.
