The nine-member Pakistani delegation, led by Secretary of Interior Ministry Syed Kamal Shah, arrived here on Sunday after participating a two-day Pakistan-Iran Joint Security meeting held in Tehran. Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry said both the sides agreed to provide access of Pakistani Consular to 94 Pakistani prisoners languishing in Iranian jails.
During the meeting, Pakistan and Iran agreed to form a two-member subsidiary committee and exchange of information on terrorism, border security, human smuggling and drug trafficking.
Additional Secretary Interior Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry would represent Pakistan while Director General Border Security would represent the Iranian side, said Secretary Interior Syed Kamal Shah while talking to newsmen here.
He said the bilateral talks with his Iranian counterparts were productive. He said both the sides emphasised enhanced co-operation to combat the smuggling of art and crafts and other lucrative items.
He said it was also agreed that the two countries will co-operate in exchange of information regarding human trafficking and mafia involved in illegal transfer of people and in identifying and arresting the agents responsible for the crime.
It has also been agreed to take effective measures to check smuggling of goods across the border. The meeting emphasised the implementation of previous agreements and also agreed that information related to the movement of smugglers, their hideouts and their activities will be exchanged through concerned authorities, he added.
The Pakistani delegation comprised of Director General Crisis Management Cell Brigadier Javed Iqbal Cheema (Retd), Director General FIA Tariq Pervaiz, Deputy Secretary of Interior ministry Javed Habib, Home Secretary Balochistan Humayun Qureshi, DIG (Southern Region) Balochistan Wasim Ahmed and ethers.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan-Iran Special Security Committee was formed in 1994 to enhance bilateral co-operation on security-related issues. The last meeting of the committee was held in May 2003 while the sixth meeting has been convened after the lapse of about three years.
