The Minister for Railways, Rashid Ahmad said on Sunday that a new highway, to be constructed from Mareer Chowk to Islamabad on Nullah Leh, would help in easing traffic flow on Murree Road, in Rawalpindi.
He said that a wall would be constructed for further increasing the height of the Leh banks. Trees would also be planted along the new road. A sum of Rs 2 billion has been allocated for the project, he told a private TV channel. He said that Rs 900 million had been spent on widening of the Leh a couple of years ago but it did not stop it from raising the danger level.
He said that all precautionary measures have been taken to avoid losses. Around 500 army Jawans are on duty along the banks of Leh. Boats are also there to provide instant help to masses in case of any emergency.
Rashid said that record 60 educational institutions had been established in Rawalpindi City. Cantonment General Hospital, Rawalpindi, had been upgraded at a cost of Rs 50 million. Additional water was being brought for Rawalpindi from Ghazi-Brotha, he added.
