Wafaq-ul-Madaris Arabia Pakistan (seminaries' representative organisation) has rejected the government's ban on enrolment of foreign students in its faculties and termed the decision totally immoral and against the precepts of Shariah.
Secretary General of the organisation, Maulana Hanif Jhalandari termed the government's decision as an open endeavour to tarnish the global image of seminaries.
Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, Jhalandari urged the government to stop its political vindication and blackmailing, failing which, he said the seminaries would reconsider their co-operation with the government in the registration process.
He appealed to President Pervez Musharraf to personally intervene in the issue and demanded immediate removal of Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and Secretary Interior Syed Kamal Shah, alleging that they wanted to sabotage talks and were trying to perpetuate the confrontation between the government and the seminaries.
He said the leaders of all the Wafaq had personally met the president in the presence of Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Ejaz-ul-Haq, in which the issue of foreign students of seminaries was specifically discussed.
