Multan district government, violating the rules, has allotted a commercial plot to a sitting MPA, belonging to the ruling PML, on nominal rent, which has irritated other council members.
Sources said the district government had rejected previous offers of Rs 200,000 and Rs 250,000 rent for the 4-kanal commercial plot, located in front of the general bus stand, and allotted to the Brother & Co of PML MPA Rai Mansab Ali on Rs 65,000 rent.
They allegedly said the district government under the tutelage of ruling party leaders had also changed minutes of the council meeting and endorsed paragraphs that the members had never stated.
They said MPA Rai Mansab wanted to set up a CNG filling pump at the plot. While the same matter was tabled in the house in its meeting on April 22, in which UC nazim Malik Amir Dogar offered monthly rent of Rs 200,000 for the plot and deposited a cheque for the amount too.
Later, Malik Ghulam Rasool Awan offered Rs 250,000 and Abdul Ghaffar Dogar offered Rs 225,000 as rent for the plot but they were denied.
A large number of city council members said when the house had rejected the proposal why a committee was constituted for its re-consideration.
When asked, MPA Rai Mansab said it was for the first time in his life that he heard the name of Brother & Co and he had no concern with the allotment of the commercial plot. He said his rivals were defaming him while he had no business with the auction of the plot allotment.
When contacted, Convenor, City District Naib Nazim Syed Wajid Ali Shah said the opposition's claim of changing proceedings was wrong. He said, the members did not take full interest in the proceedings and got exhausted during the session.
He contradicted the news that the plot was being allotted to MPA Rai Mansab and termed it incorrect.
