Four flood relief centres have been established in Rawalpindi city with an aim at providing basic amenities to the rain-affected people. District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas on Sunday told a private TV channel that the rain victims were being provided free food, medicine and the services of doctors were also available 24 hours in the camps.
The district management was on high alert and ready to cope with any eventuality. Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has asked for the services of helicopter for rescuing the stranded people if the need arises. He said the quantity of rains was not less than the year 2001 but the death toll is far lesser than that due to better precautionary measures.
