'Single controlling authority only solution for city's problems'

Karachi City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has said that problems of the city would not be resolved unless it is governed by a single institution.
"If the city government solves 100 percent problems of about 40 percent area (of the city) in its jurisdiction then problems in the rest of 60 percent area would remain. The solution is a single institution as controlling authority for the whole city," he said at the inaugural ceremony of a new ward in the Chiniot Hospital in Korangi on Sunday.
He said that Karachi is seventh largest city of the world, and economic hub of the country, but it had been developed without any planning. "Such a large city has neither a master plan nor a single authority as 13 institutions are land-controlling authority here. Each of these is responsible to provide civic facilities to people living it its jurisdiction. They should also be asked what they have done", he said, adding that these bodies had not a single machinery but only land control.
He said that rainwater had accumulated near Star Gate, under the FTC Bridge, and near Empress Market and other such areas, which did not lie in the jurisdiction of CDGK. He claimed that not a single drop of water had accumulated on the roads built by CDGK nor any uplift project initiated by it had created any problem for the citizens.
