With a view to provide essential commodities at subsidised rates to one million deserving and needy families of the province every month, Chief Minister Punjab's "Sasta Ration Scheme" has been launched on Monday in all the 35 districts of the province.
Pursuant to special directions of Punjab Chief Minister, arrangements have been made for ensuring transparency in the process of distribution of subsidised food items, official sources said here on Monday.
According to them, the government would bear the burden of Rs 2.33 billion subsidy in all, while a subsidy of Rs 170 million per month would be given under the scheme.
Under Chief Minister Punjab's "Sasta Ration Scheme", two pulses (Daal Channa & Masoor) would be given to the poor families at the rate of Rs 10 less per kg than the market price whereas deserving families would get 2-kg each of sugar and pulses and four bags of 10-kg of Atta at subsidised price of Rs 100 per bag every month.
According to sources, in pursuance of the directions of the provincial government, DCOs of all the districts had already established sale points for this purpose. A coupon book would be provided to the each poor family, which would be applicable for six months.
