River Indus at Chashma and River Chenab at Qadirabad were in high flood, while River Indus at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Taunsa, and River Chenab at Khanki were in medium flood and River Indus at Guddu and Sukkar, River Chenab at Marala and River Ravi at Balloki were in low flood.
According to a report of Flood Forecasting Division, water inflow at Tarbela was 394,000 cusecs and outflow was 307,000 cusecs while at Head Marala water inflow was 148,000 cusecs and outflow was 128,000 cusecs. Water level at Tarbela Dam was 1535.90 feet and at Mangla Dam water level was at 1201.05 feet.
Meanwhile, the report issued by the Meteorological Department Lahore, said south-easterly monsoon was reaching Punjab up to 10,000 feet and yesterday's westerly monsoon low over Kashmir still persists.
Moreover, well marked seasonal low lies over south-eastern Balochistan. Because of that, scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls is expected over the upper catchments of all the major rivers along-with northern and north-western Punjab and also over NWFP. Scattered rain may also occur over Sindh and north-eastern Balochistan.
Isolated rain is likely to occur over rest of the Punjab and western Balochistan. Scattered thunderstorm/ rain may also occur in Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions and in Sindh province.
FAISALABAD CORRESPONDENT ADDS: The floodwater has destroyed standing crops at thousands of acres along the River Chenab and as many as 30 villages of Tehsil Chiniot and Jhang were inundated, reports reaching here said.
The affected villages, included Khizerke, Kharkan, Bolay Baley, Ahmed Ke Kothey, Lala Da Burj, Thath Sangrah, Pareyki, Salooki, Kot Mirshah, Bakhsh Ke Glotran, Mill Da Burj, Mianwal, Narangwala and others.
District co-ordination officer (DCO) Jhang said that all possible arrangements had been finalised to cope with any flood situation in the district.
He said the district had been divided into 23 sectors, nine in tehsil Jhang, four in tehsil Shorkot, seven in tehsil Chiniot and three in tehsil Ahmedpur Sial.
He said all the departments concerned had been directed to co-ordinate with each other during the floods.
He added a flood warning system had been installed and the people would be informed about the flood situation through loudspeakers of mosques. Police, revenue staff, union council nazims and volunteers would help people in shifting them to safer places.
MULTAN CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Water level is increasing gradually in the River Chenab and DCO Multan Syed Iftikhar Babur said the flood relief center has become operational to avoid any emergency situation in the areas.
However, he said, there was no danger in Multan city and cantonment area.
He said that owing to the persisting heavy rains, the town administrations of Mumtazabad, Bosan, Shah Ruk-i-Alam and Shershah had started awareness campaign about any emergency that might arise out of continual rains.
He said employees of Wasa, Sui Gas, Mepco and social welfare organisations were working at the flood relief center.
He said that trucks with necessary equipment were at the disposal of the center at all times, adding that the center's staff was working to dispose of the rainwater. He said all the departments concerned had been directed to co-ordinate with each other during the floods.
