Pakistan had handed over a list of human traffickers to Iran, while Iran assured Pakistan that no one from Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) would take refuge there as the organisation had been banned by the Government of Pakistan, said Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah here on Tuesday.
Briefing media regarding recent Pak-Iran Special Security Committee held on August 2 - 3 in Tehran, he said during his visit he met Iranian interior ministry senior officials, who assured support to Pakistan government in curbing illegal cross-border infiltration by any element.
He said during the meeting the two sides underscored the need for further strengthening bilateral ties to combat terrorism and human and drug-traffickings.
Kamal Shah said the meeting was held between the interior ministries of two countries after a lapse of three years, its last meeting was held in May 2003.
He said wide-ranging issues from border controls to terrorism, including exchange of prisoners, human trafficking and drug controls were discussed during the two-day meeting.
Regarding border control, both sides reiterated the need for enhancing co-operation between the neighbouring provinces of Iranian Sistan and Balochistan and Pakistan's Balochistan and underscored the need for joint border commission to meet regularly to address issues relating to border control measures.
It was decided that field commanders and senior commanders of the two provinces would meet on monthly and quarterly basis for exchange of information relating to cross border movement.
During the meeting, Iranian side, on the request of Pakistan, agreed to grant consular access to 94 Pakistani prisoners detained in Iranian jails.
Recognising that terrorism poses threat to both countries, the meeting resolved to intimately co-operate with each other in combating the menace through exchange of information and intelligence.
The meeting took a number of decisions to curb human trafficking and illegal movement.
It appointed focal persons in FIA (Pakistan) and Directorate General of Law Enforcement (Iran) for exchange of information and human trafficking.
DG FIA and Director General of border and smuggling of Ministry of Interior of Iran would meet every six months alternately in Tehran and Islamabad for better co-ordination to combat human trafficking.
Kamal Shah said Pakistan also handed over a list of over 10 human traffickers to Iran and emphasised the need for apprehending the main agents involved in human trafficking.
Regarding drug trafficking, the two sides expressed satisfaction over co-operation and underlined need for boosting further co-operation.
The meeting appointed focal persons to ensure implementation of the decisions and agreement reached during the special security committee meetings.
From Iranian side Director General Border Affairs and Smuggling and from Pakistani side Additional Secretary Ministry of Interior have been nominated.
