The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has exempted 'Halal' edible offal of bovine animals from payment of customs duty and sales tax from May 9, 2005. The Board on Tuesday issued an SRO to ensure smooth clearance of the item at the ports.
According to the notification, the exemption of customs duty and sales tax would be applicable on the import of 'Halal' edible offal of bovine animals, falling under Pakistan Customs Tariff (PCT) headings 0206.1000, 0206.2000 and 0206.9000 specified in the First Schedule of the Customs Act, 1969.
It is learnt that customs officials at ports were not clearing the consignments of the said item due to absence of the relevant tariff heading in the Pakistan Customs Tariff. Following issuance of the notification, the exemption would be applicable from May 9, 2005.
