Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel) said on Tuesday it has entered into an agreement with Cybernet of Pakistan to provide Internet Protocol-Virtual Private Network (IP-VPN) coverage in Karachi.
SingTel said in a statement it was offering its ConnectPlus IP-VPN service in Pakistan for the first time in response to growing demand from enterprises for secure and reliable communications.
"In South Asia, Pakistan is fast becoming a popular destination among the corporate world for back-end process operations," said SingTel vice president of business marketing Wong Soon Nam.
"With our landmark agreement with Cybernet, companies that plan to conduct business in Pakistan can enjoy a one-stop service from SingTel to connect their global offices to Pakistan and the rest of the world."
Cybernet is Pakistan's largest Internet and data network operator.
Its chief operating officer, Ansar-ul-Haq, said his firm's partnership with SingTel is designed to "meet the requirements of customers who are looking for reliable, secure and high capacity IP-VPN access."
SingTel is Southeast Asia's biggest telecom company.
Outside of the Singapore home market, SingTel has a wholly owned subsidiary, SingTel Optus, in Australia as well as major investments in mobile telecom firms in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.
