Provincial Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Syed Raza Ali Gillani has said that over 260,000 housing units are needed in the province and the government is not only utilising all available resources but also providing necessary facilities to the private developers to play their due role in this regard.
He expressed these views while addressing as chief guest at the inaugural session of a 2-day international conference on housing and construction industry, here on Tuesday.
Chairman Institute of Architectures Pakistan (IAP) Dr Shakeel Qureshi, Dean Faculty of Architecture and Planning, University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Professor Dr Syed Shabih-ul-Hassan Zaidi, Chairperson Research and Development Forum, Dr Nabila Tariq and a large number of people associated with different departments were also present on the occasion.
Raza Gillani maintained that the government is striving to provide modern housing facilities to people with a view to improving the living standard of low-income groups.
"We are working to provide better living conditions and a better lifestyle at an affordable price to the people of all strata of the society," he said.
He urged private sector to join hands with the government in its endeavours to provide housing facilities to low income groups within the parameters laid down under the new housing policy.
The Minister said that under the new policy, 50 percent constructed houses and 50 percent developed plots would be allotted through balloting to the low income segments of the society.
