The US Agriculture Department on Friday boosted its 2006 export forecasts for beef over the previous month due to expected strong sales in Canada and Mexico.
"Beef exports to Japan resumed the first week of August, but prior forecasts had assumed exports would resume in the third quarter," USDA said in its monthly World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report. "Export recovery to Japan is expected to be gradual." Traders said earlier this week that sales of US beef to Japan were off to a fast start.
