Member Advisory Committee, Pakistan Railways and executive committee Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi has said that the railway bridge collapsed in Run Pathani, Sindh has created hurdle in the transportation of goods in the country.
In a press release issued here on Thursday, he said that the railway bridge connecting Karachi-Hyderabad broke down 10 days back disconnecting Karachi from the rest of the country. He said railway authorities despite making tall claims failed in the rehabilitation of the bridge and arrangements for few passenger trains was made on temporary basis.
Criticising the performance of Pakistan Railways, Sarhadi said that on one side the railway officials are talking of launching bullet-proof trains and improvement in their service but on the other hand it had failed to repair a bridge immediately.
He said that NWFP, which is far away from the sea port and millions of ton export bound goods loaded at Peshawar Dry port are lying in the way for the last 10 days bringing the national export into a standstill position and depriving the country of the handsome foreign exchange.
Sarhadi, who is also chairman of Frontier Customs Agents Group, said that like export bound goods from Peshawar, hundreds of Peshawar bound Afghan Transit Trade containers also stuck at Karachi port inflicting heavy loss to Pakistan Railways.
He demanded of the Federal Minister for Railways, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad to take notice of the matter and issue directives to Pakistan Railways for its repair to restore train service between Karachi and other parts of the country.-PR
