Since flood has inundated more than 700 villages in Multan, Muzaffargarh, and Rajanpur and supply of vegetables suspended. On the other hand rain had played havoc in different towns and cities.
As rains have proved fatal for the economic and social activities in the city and some parts of Southern Punjab, these have also affected the kitchen items prices creating the budget constraints for the housewives.
The shopkeepers said the food items including vegetables, fruits are not coming from rural areas as the transportation system is paralysed due to submerged roads.
According to a market survey, the prices of all the kitchen items have gone up by Rs 30 per kg within a week. Mutton price has further escalated by Rs 15 per kg and now it is selling at Rs 220 per kg. Beef has also gone expensive by Rs 10 per kg. Eggs have gone up by Rs 5 per dozen. Vegetable Ghee escalated by Rs 5 to 7 per kg, sugar is still at Rs 38 per kg, potatoes, eaten by 80 percent people is selling at Rs 25 per kg. While the price of tomatoes climbed to Rs 40, ladyfingers green chilies and green coriander are touching the sky. Price of pulses of different kinds has also been increased without any reason. At some markets the wheat flour is selling at Rs 17 instead of Rs 15 per kg.
