Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) Commissioner, Syed Tahir Raza Naqvi has said that measures are afoot to ensure private sector role in the management of all social security hospitals so that their workings could be made more transparent and beneficial for the workers.
He stated this while speaking at Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Saturday. LCCI President Mian Shafqat Ali, Senior Vice President Abdul Basit and LCCI Convenor on Social Security Tahir Javed Malik were also present on the occasion.
Syed Tahir Raza Naqvi maintained that the Dispute Resolution Committees were being strengthened by incorporating necessary amendments in the existing laws and a summary in this regard had already been moved to the competent authority.
Highlighting the ongoing projects of PESSI, he said the Social Security Institution was now establishing hospitals in the remote areas and Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi had accorded approval to enhance the PESSI hospitals bed strength from 1400 to 3500, while up-gradation work of 50-100 bed hospitals was also in progress.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President said that the Chief Minister announcement regarding drastic revision in the social security system indicates that government was fully conscious of the need to make the system more business friendly and less cumbersome. We feel that representation to the Chambers on the Governing Body of PESSI should be given proportionate to their contribution towards the fund of the social security, he added. He also suggested that the Social Security Hospitals should have Burns Units also and the number of ambulances should be increased.
