Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD), President Mohammad Pervaiz Malik has urged the philanthropists to come forward and join hands with the association so that free of cost cornea transplant facility being offered by the body could be extended to the poor blind people.
He was addressing a meeting of Governing Body of the association at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Lahore Chamber) on Friday. General Manager of Albaraka Islamic Bank, Shafqaat Ahmad, Mian Nusrat-ud-Din, S.E.I. Pervaiz and Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmad were also present on the occasion.
Malik said that an operation for cornea transplant costs Rs 25000 to the LABARD and to date 155 people had been operated upon for cornea transplant and all expenses were borne by the association.
On the occasion, Khawaja Imtiaz announced to bear expenses of three cornea transplant operations. He said that LABARD would soon contact International Blind Association to get more information regarding facilities for the blind.
The Governing Body lauded the co-operation of a famous restaurant situated at Mall Road that provided employment of 10 deaf and dumb persons.
