The South Zone Group of Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap) has won all the five seats for election of member managing committee (MC) unopposed for the term 2006-09.
According to detail, seven candidates filed their nominations for the election of five seats of MC while two candidates including Muhammad Hussain Khandwala and Ashfaq Abdul Ghaffar withdrew their nominations.
According to unofficial results announced by the Reap, the remaining five candidates including Muhammad Younus Ismail, Sham Lal Badlani, Akmal Amin Peracha, Shamsul Islam and Dr Abdul Rahim stand elected unopposed for five seats of managing committee for next term.
All successful candidates belonged to South Zone Group led by former chairman Reap Abdul Rahim Janoo.
Meanwhile five other candidates belonging to South Zone ally group in Reap North Chapter has also been elected unopposed on five seats of member managing committee. Reap is divided into two zones - North Zone and South Zone. The South Zone comprises of Sindh and Balochistan while the North Zone comprises of Punjab and NWFP.
Former chairman Reap and chairman South Zone Group Abdul Rahim Janoo and Muhammad Tariq Aziz vice chairman Reap thanked the members for electing the members of managing committee and assured that they would continue their services for the welfare of rice exporters and for the betterment of rice trade.
They were optimistic that rice export target for the current fiscal year set by the Reap would be achieved.
After election of 10 new members, 27 out of total 30 MC members now belongs to South Zone Group and its ally in North Zone Chapter of the association.
