On the directives of the City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, the health department has established an emergency centre at old KMC building on M. A. Jinnah Road to help public, besides carrying out fumigation drive, said the city government officials on Saturday.
At the emergency center, around 50 personnel have also been designated to provide help round the clock, besides it had significant amount of insecticides to meet the challenging situation, they said.
They said, the city government had also provided a further three fumigation spray-machines to each town to improve the continued fumigation drive being carried out in the metropolis. In order to speed up the drive the number of spray-machines had been increased to 54, which were earlier 24, the officials added.
"City Nazim took steps to improve the sewerage and drainage conditions of storm-water drain abutted to Nehr-e-Khayaam after having been collapsed during recent monsoon rains," they said.
After the rains, the city government felt it necessary to initiate the fumigation drive in the city to fight epidemic diseases, besides eliminating mosquitoes and other lethal insects.
Executive District Officer (EDO), Dr Khalid Sheikh has advised the general public to take precautionary steps against the seasonal and epidemic diseases and avoid eating stale food.
The city government officials said that uplift projects had been initiated under the Khushal Pakistan Programme (KPP), were progressive being carried out in the metropolis.
The Malir River Bridge project of worth Rs 1702 million was one of the mega projects, and around 35 percent construction work on it had so far been completed at the cost of Rs 400 million, they maintained.
"If the federal government continued the financial support to the city government, this project will be completed by May 2007," they said and added that the proposed bridge would help citizens of adjacent localities to reach their work place in minimum time.
