According to Federal Bureau of Statistics, the inflation rates based on SPI, CPI and WPI showed single digit increase during July 2006, as compared to July 2005. The monthly data showed SPI rose by 8.090 percent, CPI by 7.63 percent and WPI by 8.43 percent.
However, Year on Year increase in July last year was SPI 8.04 percent, CPI 8.99 percent and WPI 9.36 percent. Thus there is declining trend in CPI and WPI, but SPI went up to 8.90 percent as compared to 8.04 percent.
During July 2006 as compared to previous month SPI rose by 1.36 percent, CPI by 1.61 percent and WPI by 1.42 percent, which is no mean increase for a month.
Food and Beverages which have 40 percent weightage in CPI, jumped by 2.62 percent in one month Yar on Year CPI rose by 7.44 percent. Fuel and lighting (weightage 7.29 percent) went up by 3.50 percent in one month. The main commodities, which showed sizeable increase in their prices during July, 2006 over June, 2006 are as under:
FOOD AND BEVERAGES: Tomatoes (69.35 percent), onions (19.34 percent), chicken farm (13.80 percent), vegetables (12.92 percent), fresh fruits (8.27 percent).
FUEL AND LIGHTING: Natural gas (8.76 percent).
HOUSEHOLD, FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT ETC: Electric iron, fans and washing machine (1.31 percent), sewing machine, clock and needles (1.02 percent), plastic products (0.85 percent), utensils (0.72 percent) and household servant (0.64 percent).
TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATION: Air fare (10.26 percent), CNG filling charges (6.58 percent).
WHOLESALE PRICE INDEX (WPI) The wholesale price index during July, 2006 increased by 1.42 percent over June, 2006, it increased by 8.43 percent over the corresponding month of the last year.
Year on Year rise in food items is 5.39 percent; raw materials 11.06 percent; fuel, lighting and lubricants 18.43 percent; manufactures 4.14 percent; building materials 4.17 percent.
