Scholarships worth Rs 1.9 million and 30,000 have been issued to 193 children of industrial workers of Lahore, studying in 8th and 9th class. The amount was disbursed among them at the rate of Rs 10,000 each.
This was told by Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resource Syed Akhtar Hussain Rizvi while talking to a teachers' delegation of schools run under Labour Department, here on Sunday.
The minister said that amount out of education cess has been distributed first time among the students of school level as scholarship. He said that this sort of appreciation for a student who obtained good marks would not only encourage them for greater efforts but would also create confidence in their personality. He said that scholarships out of education cess would also be introduced in other districts of the province.
The minister told the delegation that Punjab Workers Welfare Board is also providing scholarship to the intelligent children students of industrial workers at college and university level.
