US hard red winter wheat markets were quiet Monday with little wheat being sold and a few elevators not bidding because they are full, dealers said.
In Kansas, grain dealers were pleased with the widespread weekend rainfall. Rainfall ranged from 1/2 to 1 inch over a wide area of the state, with Salina sources reporting instances of 3 inches.
Wheat sales were light after the sharp drop in KCBT futures on Friday. Also, farmers are optimistic prices may improve later, should the fall corn harvest fall short of expectations.
A dry summer has some farmers expecting that corn prices could turn higher as that harvest nears despite last week's USDA crop report, which raised the US corn production estimate to 10.976 billion bushels from 10.740 billion.
