Special teams comprising CMIT members and magistrates have been formed to conduct raids at the markets and bazaars for checking the prices of daily use items.
Strict legal action would be taken against the shopkeepers found involved in overcharging, said the provincial Minister for Chief Minister's Inspection Team (CMIT) Colonel Shuja Khanzada (Retd), while presiding over a meeting here on Wednesday.
Chairman CMIT Arsalan Ali Khan, Secretary Siddique Akbar Minhas and members of CMIT also attended the meeting, which reviewed the process of demand and supply of daily use items. The Minister said that districts have been allotted to the members of CMIT who would pay surprise raids along with magistrates in their respective districts.
He directed the members to take to task such elements found involved in hoarding and artificial price-hike. He said that no body would be allowed to sell daily use commodities at higher prices. He said that government under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was taking concrete step for providing relief to the masses. He asked the members to monitor 'Sasta Ration Scheme' so that implementation reports about this public welfare scheme could be submitted to Chief Minister Punjab.
