As many as 82,059 metric tons of mango were exported from the country during the out going financial year earning a foreign exchange of $24 million and capturing over 10.10 percent share in the world market. This was disclosed in a meeting held here on Wednesday.
Highlighting the measures being taken for enhancing export of mangoes, it was said that efforts for initiating one window operation for mango export at major airports of the country are also underway.
More cargo space is being sought to help increase quantity of mango export particularly to the European countries, it was said. New markets are being sought, especially in the countries which are major importers of the fruit including USA, Netherlands and UAE, the meeting was apprised.
According to a handout, training facilities would be extended to the stakeholders for proper packing, grading and transportation of the fruits. The meeting was told that formation of working groups is under consideration which will represent farmers, traders, processors, exporters, cold storage owners and representatives of concerned government departments to boost the export.
