Morocco has awarded licences for the import of 20,000 tonnes of US soft wheat to Cargill Maroc, a subsidiary of one of the leading US trading houses, the state grains agency ONICL announced on Wednesday.
The award was made in a competitive tender and the grain is for delivery by the end of September. Price levels were not immediately available.
US traders said Cargill Inc sold Morocco the wheat for shipment from the port of Albany. The award was made under a trade deal between the United States and Morocco. Morocco no longer directly purchases wheat in international tenders. Instead it awards import licences which traders can use to sell grain in the country.
