Religious leaders and Ulema should use the mosque to raise awareness against drug abuse in the light of Islamic teachings. Punjab Auqaf Minister Syed Saeedul Hassan said this while talking to delegations of Ulema and NGOs at his office here on Thursday.
The minister urged the Ulema and representatives of NGOs to create awareness about this vital social issue, to help end this menace and to assist in rehabilitation efforts for addicts. He said Islam forbids intoxicants of every kind as these leave negative impact on the mental and physical health of a person. He asked Ulema to guide the young generation in the light of Islamic teachings, and said the media and NGOs must also play a positive role in this regard.
'Cigarette smoking too is an addiction that takes its toll on human health as well as the national economy,' he said, adding that religious leaders and all responsible elements must wage a war against smoking.
