The University of Sindh has decided to reactivate its Bureau of Translation for publication of books on science, social sciences and humanities to provide literature for general knowledge and awareness of students and public.
This was decided in a meeting of bureau of translation, compilation, publication and university information services and statistics here on Friday. Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui presided over the meeting.
Realising about shortage of availability of material in Sindhi language for awareness and information in students and public about different aspects of life especially in sciences, social science and humanities, the meeting emphasised on translation of important literature for the purpose.
The meeting for paying particularly focus on its working and objectives proposed renaming it as bureau of translation and publication.
The meeting approved formation of two different committees about selection of important books for translation to be done by a publication committee and another committee of experts to edit the selected books for the publication.
Meeting in principal decided to provide required staff and equipment for set up of a separate office for the bureau and allocation of funds in annual budget of 2007-2008. It was also decided to prepare PC-I towards equipment as well as its future planning on sustainable grounds for seeking of financial help from higher education commission.
It was further decided that the bureau will make efforts to collect information from various publication houses and institutes about rates of remuneration to writers as well as translators, copy right, and consent as well as terms and conditions for publication of books of various authors.
Meeting authorised two members of the committee to prepare a list of important writers for assigning translation work as well to contact with authors for writing of books on different subjects.
The vice chancellor University of Sindh on this occasion highlighting importance of bureau stressed speedy work on the subject.
He said that higher education commission (HEC) has been paying attention for promotion of social sciences and humanities along with sciences and added that social sciences and humanities are most important towards society development.
He expressed hope that HEC would extend positive response by providing financial assistance for publication literature in science as well as social sciences and humanities.
The Registrar University of Sindh Dr Saeed Ahmed Soomro, Dr Noor Afroz Khoja Head of Sindhi Department, Director Finance Faiz M. Hingoro, Director Institute of Sindhology Shukat Hussain Shoro, Professor Ali Murtaza Dharejo and Inam Shaikh attended the meeting.
