The Sindh Cabinet, which was to meet at Mithi on Saturday, would now meet in Karachi at 1:30 pm at the Chief Minister House, Law Minister Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed said on Friday. He said that the Cabinet would have a single point agenda to discuss recent rains and its devastating effects.
He said that rains had taught many lessons that should be kept in mind during future planning. Earlier, Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed informed the house that there would be an emergent meeting of the Sindh Cabinet to consider a single point agenda pertaining to recent rains, survey of its adverse effects, and need for compensation for the affected people.
He was speaking in response to a motion presented by Hameedullah of the opposition through which he wanted the House to demand compensation for those who had lost their lives and properties in recent rains.
Ahmed said that it would be futile to talk about compensation as the government was seize of the situation and would discuss the matter in Saturday's Cabinet meeting. He said that a province-wise survey would be conducted to ascertain the quantum of damage and need for compensation. He assured the House that the government would take appropriate relief measures in respect of rain related matters.
