City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, who visited various city areas for about eight hours from midnight on Thursday to Friday morning, found choked drain at civil lines, which serves as the main discharge point for the entire Karachi.
He immediately deployed the CDGK workers and got the drain opened. He directed the Executive Engineer concerned to appear before him at the office in the morning while asked the EDO Health, Dr Khalid Shaikh and In-charge, Crisis Management, Masood Alam to deploy two teams each consisting of 20 workers to further improve the drainage system.
Accompanied by DCO Fazlur Rehman and Managing Director, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB), Brigadier Iftikhar Haider, the City Nazim visited Hassan Square Flyover, Old Sabzi Mandi area, Civil Lines Pumping Station, Teen Talwar, Bath Island, Nahr-e-Khayam, KPT Underpass, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Zaib-u-Nisa Street, Abdullah Haroon Road, Empress Market, Sharea Faisal and Jail Chowrangi.
At Hassan Square, he directed the officials of Crisis Management Cell to put barriers around the ongoing work of flyover so that the citizens could be saved from any eventuality. Mustafa Kamal directed the MD, KWSB to assign 50 sanitation workers at University Road near Old Sabzi Mandi to drain out accumulated rainwater.
He directed the Chief Fire Officer Kazim Ali to arrange de-watering pump forthwith at Civil Lines and buy new generators in the morning for the pumping station.
