Punjab University Institute of Bio-Chemistry and Bio-Technology in collaboration with SU Enterprises, Switzerland organised a workshop on "Biochemical Engineering & Fermenter Applications.
Punjab University vice-chancellor, Arshad Mahmood while inaugurating the workshop here on Saturday said that there was not a single bio-pharmaceutical industry in Pakistan. He said there was a dire need to build up the basic arsenal for venturing into collaborative teaching and research programme.
Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology was actively involved in research related to production and applications of somatotropin for enhancing farm animal productivity, characterisation and applications of enzymes of industrial importance, characterisation and biotechnological production sweet-tasting proteins and production of monoclonal antibodies for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
The Institute also actively collaborates with other institutions both within the country and abroad, for promotion of scientific research in order to meet the challenges of 21st century, he added. Director, Institute of Bio-chemistry and Bio-technology, Professor Nadeem Nawazish also spoke on the occasion.
