The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has decided to set up an election management cell to block what it called the government's open intention to rig the 2007 general elections. The party took the decision in a meeting here on Sunday.
PPP secretary-general MNA Raja Pervez Ashraf and other leaders, including Senator Raza Rabbani, Qasim Zia and Nisar Ahmed Khoro attended the meeting.
The meeting was convened on the instructions of party chairperson Benazir Bhutto to deliberate upon the strategies to block any effort by the regime to rig general elections.
The meeting took notice of General Musharraf's continued interference in the politics despite the statement by the chief election commissioner asking him to refrain from taking part in political activities.
The meeting also took notice of the statement by an ally of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) claiming the decision of awarding tickets in the elections would be taken by General Musharraf.
The meeting noted all these acts of General Musharraf were in violation of the directives issued by the chief election commissioner.
The meeting demanded of the chief election commissioner to take measures to put an end to General Musharraf's continued involvement in political activities of the ruling party.
