Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that after thumping of desks and walkouts from assemblies on phone calls from abroad, the Opposition has now in desperation announced to bring a no confidence motion; however, it will face further disappointment.
In a TV interview, Pervaiz Elahi said that Benazir Bhutto after becoming life chairperson of PPP is now looking for elixir. PPP leadership raises slogans of democracy but there is no democracy within party ranks, its office-bearers are nominated for a short period of time on phone calls from abroad, he said.
He said that Kalabagh Dam should be constructed even if Punjab is not given a single drop of water. He said that President Pervez Musharraf not only believes in democracy but is also strengthening its foundations in the country. He said that why those elements who opposed uniform, contested elections in the presence of a President in uniform.
'Free textbooks will also be distributed among the deserving students of private educational institutions, while a positive change will soon be witnessed in Thana Culture', he said, adding, the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) government has taken up the challenge of transformation of Thana culture and the incidents of kidnapping for ransom have been controlled.
Similarly, crime rate on highways and nearby areas has dropped by 35 percent due to setting up of patrolling posts.
He said that the next general elections would be contested on the basis of performance and PML will win a thumping victory. 'We facilitated the masses and generated job opportunities due to which poverty was alleviated. On the contrary, people are well aware of the performance of opposition during this period. The founder of Peoples Party proved through his conduct that he did not tolerate opposition but our government is taking opposition along and the opposition government in NWFP is also completing its constitutional tenure like the governments of other provinces', he said.
