Punjab Public Accounts Committee (PPAC) has pointed out some financial irregularities and abuse of power in different nation-building departments and recommended steps for the recovery of embezzled or misused funds from the responsible persons.
PPAC Chairman Asif Saeed Manais, talking to newsmen, disclosed this here on Sunday, and added the PPAC was functioning to root out corruption and to run the business of government departments smoothly.
He said the Punjab government was carrying out an extensive agenda of reforms across the province under the Chief Minister's Vision 2020 to sustain an annual gross domestic product (GDP) growth of seven percent or more, and create one million new jobs every year.
He said the present government had been focussing on pro-people economic development, adding the reforms implemented by the Federal government during the last six years had transformed the economy, which was dominated by the public sector.
"Now the private sector dominates the economy," he said, adding the government was also giving top priority to governance reforms for ensuring higher standards of public services and improved access to those services.
He said that with the assistance of international development partners, the government had embarked upon wide-ranging reforms in public financial management and civil service for improved service delivery and reducing transaction costs, creating enabling environment for the private sector development and reducing the cost of business.
