The torrential rains have left the residents of Bath Island, a posh residential area, in a daze. The miseries that have befallen on them are no less, measured in terms of agony and pain, than those unfortunate hundreds and thousands who live in shanties, in and around the city, braving the wrath of weather, suffering in silence, crying in wilderness for help which comes rarely.
Confronted with a situation of resilience, the high profile people living in the locality, mainly comprising bureaucrats and well to do people who are prone to facing such ugly situations of the sort, have now turned to the Governor, Chief Minister and City Nazim seeking alleviation of their problems. The newly formed Bath Island Residents Association in a letter has drawn their attention to the flooding of the area and complete breakdown of the drainage and sewerage system which has resulted in inundating some parts and stagnant gutter up-to three feet surrounding streets two to 15.
"For the last four days, no effort has been made by the civic administration of Karachi to resolve the matter or come to the rescue of the residents of Bath Island. Indeed, all that has been done is to pay lip service to the problem and complaints made which have not resulted in any relief for the residents". The Association has called upon the civic administration to declare emergency in Bath Island in view of the pathetic conditions prevailing in the area.
