In pursuance of Chief Minister's directives to prepare traffic plan for five big cities of Punjab, an 11.88-km pilot project of Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) is being launched from Qartaba Chowk to Khaira distributory, on Ferozepur Road Lahore at a cost of Rs 593.91 million.
The project was discussed by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) at a meeting presided over by the Chairman Planning and Development Board, Suleman Ghani, disclosed an official here on Monday. Secretary P and DD Sohail Ahmed and other concerned officers also attended the meeting.
In order to ensure success of the project, the concerned departments including urban unit, city district government Lahore, TEPA, Transport Department and Traffic Police would work jointly. This project is aimed at increasing road efficiency and reducing congestion's through ITMS with international standards, standardisation of traffic control systems, provision of modern computerised traffic control system, exclusive bus lane and provision of safe and secure movement to the pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles.
While giving the expenditure break up, the meeting was informed that construction of civil works would cost Rs 257.640 million, installation of signals Rs 138.740 million, centralised computer system and close circuit television cameras Rs 132.360 million and special traffic police unit Rs 32.170 million.
