The handing over ceremony of the Command of Multinational Task Force CTF-150 would be held at the waters of North Arabian Sea of Bahrain on Tuesday. The command of the force would be handed over by Pakistan Navy to German Navy at the ceremony, said a spokesman of Pakistan Navy.
Pakistan had taken over the Command of CTF on April 24, 2006 from the Netherlands, as part of the international coalition in combating global war on terror.
The task force included naval assets of the US, Britain, Australia, Italy, Japan, Germany, Netherlands, and Spain. The Headquarters of the task force is situated in Bahrain, which works in co-ordination with US Central Command Headquarters in Florida, USA.
During the command of Pakistan, a number of significant achievements were made by the CTF-150, like effectively checking the increasing trends of piracy along the Somalian Coast besides curbing the menace of human trafficking.
Prior to the actions by CTF, the pirates were moving free to achieve their nefarious designs and looting the sailing ships passing through the deep waters in the vicinity of Somalia, which had been effectively checked thus providing safe environment to the ships in the coastal as well as deep waters.
