Punjab Bar Council (PBC) acting vice-chairman, Muhammad Iqbal Mohal has called upon the President Pervez Musharraf to keep one office either of chief of army staff or President of Pakistan. While addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mohal also urged the Prime Minister to tender apology over privatisation of Pakistan Steel Mills.
For the sake of democracy in Pakistan, Musharraf should hold only one office and abstain from undermining the parliament, he said, adding the government should allow all the political leaders and parties to participate in the forthcoming general elections.
He also called upon the government to allow the exiled political leaders to come back to the country and play their due role in national politics.
He said that the President should also play his role for eradication of corruption, adding he asked the government not to privatise steel mills without permission of parliament. He also demanded of President of Pakistan to appoint judges in higher courts on merit to uphold the image of the judiciary in the eyes of people.
